Bangladesh Research Institute for Development (BRID) was established in 2015. The head office is located in Thakurgaon, Bangladesh. This is a nonprofit institute on research in the development arena. The institute conducts interdisciplinary research on policy and development to solve the problems and to mitigate the challenges, and improve the living standards of Bangladesh. The institute also takes an original approach to research, training, and knowledge sharing for the development of the country and the international communities. The institute explores the solutions to the existing socio-economic problems and provides policy suggestions for the development of society through research, training, and educational programs. The institute consists of different categories of bodies, groups, boards, and teams such as the Chairman and CEO, advisory group, research team, administrative team, education, and training team, field operational management team, data management team, publications team, communications team, and other related teams as per requisitions and permitted by Chairman and CEO for operating and managing all the activities within the institute. BRID has a self-driven body which is leaded by the Chairman and CEO. The institute has an advisory group consisting of 03 members including university professors/retired professors/university research-focused renowned teachers/famous teachers on research and development. The advisory group guides the institute for smooth running and development. The group identifies the gap between realities and practices within an organization and practical atmospheres. The institute has various teams for multidimensional research-based activities. The teams include the research team, administrative team, education, and training team, field operational management team, data management team, publications, and communications team, and other related and required teams. Each of the teams will work on their specific areas with assigned responsibilities within their peripheries. They will work with each other jointly for fulfilling organizational and research purposes. BRID has different types of staff such as regular staff, contractual staff, consultants, fellows, interns, field workers, volunteers, and affiliated staff.
A committee having the authority for the appointment of the personnel is formed for a specific period by the Chairman and CEO of BRID. They take all the managerial necessary activities and will specify strategies for the appointment of the personnel with the permission of the Chairman and CEO of BRID. The Chairman and CEO of BRID specify the responsibilities for the personnel through advertising and direct office order. After the appointment, personnel perform their responsibilities and duties assigned by the supervisors and higher authorities as per necessity. The Chairman and CEO of BRID control and monitor all the activities of the personnel of BRID. The Chairman and CEO of BRID approve its operational and managerial budget annually. The Chairman and CEO formulate and finalize the volume of its budget, and he is responsible for approving its research budget for the fiscal year. After allocating its annual budget, the Chairman and CEO monitors and supervises its proper implementation. At the end of the financial year, a report on a yearly budget is presented and provided to the Chairman and CEO of BRID. After review, the Chairman and CEO of BRID accept the report as well as sanctioning the next year’s annual budget.
The institute has multidisciplinary collaborative programs not only with national organizations and parties but also with international organizations and parties on research. The institute is being worked by the two approaches in the fields of collaborative research with the international organizations; firstly, conducting comprehensive surveys and studies in national geographical areas with the foreign organizations and parties; and secondly, conducting research in international peripheries with the assistance by foreign organizations and parties. BRID organizes different types of events such as conferences, seminars/workshops, roundtable meetings, and other events related to research and development.
BRID will commence higher education programs such as diploma, MPhil, PhD, and other related degrees in research and development forthcoming. To achieve the purposes of educational programs, the Chairman and CEO of BRID will take all the initiatives to continue the programs in accordance with the existing laws and policies of the related ministries and University Grants Commission of Bangladesh.
