Final evaluation of the Eco-friendly construction materials in coastal regions project

Overview

Community Development Centre (CODEC) is a descendant of DANIDA Bangladesh, specifically the DANIDA Boat Construction Project and the DANIDA Boat Renting Scheme. In accordance with the advice of the Government of Bangladesh (GoB) and the Royal Danish Embassy, CODEC has been operating as a development organization that places a focus on the needs of its members as of October 1, 1985. At the beginning of its development intervention, CODEC has focused only on the communities of fisherfolk (seven villages) in Chittagong; however, over time, CODEC has expanded its working area to include additional marginalized coastal communities in addition to the fisherfolk.

CODEC are implementing a sub-project of SEP, namely, “Promotion of Environment friendly Construction Materials and Technologies in coastal region of Bangladesh” in Rupsha and Batiaghata Upazila under Khulna district, Bagerhat sadar, Fakirhat under Bagerhat District, Galachipa under PAtuakhali District and Noakhali Sadar Upazila under Noakhali District of Bangladesh. This 02 year’s June 2021 to May 2023 sub-project will support to achieve global goals of the main SEP project. The sub-project activities have been implemented in the business clusters of eco-friendly construction subsector to improve the overall business and environment of the microenterprises. The main purpose of this subproject was to ensure environment friendly materials in construction process. Furthermore, this subproject aimed at to introduce environment protective construction process to the micro-enterprises to reduce the environment pollution. The use of safety equipment during traditional and modern construction process was the major activities of the subproject.

However, BRID is conducting a final evaluation on “Promotion of Environment friendly Construction Materials and Technologies in coastal region of Bangladesh” project to understand the present business, economic and environment status of microenterprises, entrepreneur and their enterprises under eco-friendly construction sector in the sub-project working area against baseline data as an evaluation.
