Background profile
- Study found that MEs doing business in the project areas had small family size. Almost 96.6% of the respondents had two to five family members in their family.
- Gender segregation data revealed a significant result which indicated female participation in the project is mentionable. Almost 44% of the total MEs were female headed who were covered by the project activities in the study areas.
- Educational status of the MEs is the vital indicator which helps to achieve the project goal and objectives in proper ways. It was assumed that educated MEs better than non-educated MEs in terms of implementing project activities. The study found that 59.3% of the MEs had only primary level educational status in the project areas which denoted low educational qualification in terms of national standards.
- It is worth mentioning that religious segregation of the MEs doing business in the project areas were miserable while only 6% of the MEs were included from Hindu religious perspectives while national standards of religious segregation of the population reflects another view that is almost 10%. Almost 94% of the MEs were Muslim which denoted participation of the Muslim communities was higher than other communities in the project activities.
Categories of Micro-Enterprises
- The study observed that project covered two types of enterprises such as single and joint ownership while 97.3% of the enterprises were owned by the single ownership.
- The study found that various types of business in the construction sectors were working in the project areas. The project covered different types of MEs who operating different types of enterprises such as ring slab factory, tiles factory, and so on while 61.3% of the enterprises were ring/slab/pillar factory.
- The study found that major portion of the enterprises were self-owned by the MEs while they received from patriarchal and self-bought system. Almost 97 MEs said that enterprise was established by patriarchal or self-bought process in the study areas.
- The major portion of the MEs earned below one lac takas per month (80,000 tk) in the study areas. The study found that 80% of the MEs earned 40000-100000 takas per month by operating their business in the project areas.
- The study found that major portion of the MEs expended below one lac per month. Almost 88.7% of the MEs expended 40000 to 100000 takas per month who doing their business in the study areas.
Infrastructural and Loan Status
- It was observed that MEs had loan of different ranges from 40000 to 800000 takas. The study found that 89% of the MEs had loan while 55 MEs had below one lac takas loan in the study areas.
- Data on infrastructure have revealed that a significant portion of the enterprises’ (56.7%) infrastructure was tin house in the surveyed area.
- Major portion of the enterprises did not have legal status in the study areas.
Properties and Assets Comparison
- It can be said that a big portion (24%) of the enterprises had below 1 lac-taka and a mentionable portion (30%) of the enterprises had 1 to 2 lac taka equivalent assets in the study area.
- It can be said that a major portion of the enterprises had below 1 lac equivalent assets in the study area.
Employee segregation
- According to the figure’s data, most (65.3) enterprises have only 1 to 2 male employees.
- It can be said that job opportunities or awareness or positivity have not yet been created for women in this sector. (to be continued)
